Post-construction cleaning →When Duct Cleaning Services Are Worth Doing, and When They Are Not
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says there is no strong evidence that routine duct cleaning prevents health problems, and that dust in ducts does not necessarily mean the air you breathe is worse. It advises cleaning when there is a specific reason, such as visible mold, pests or heavy contamination. We agree, and we would rather earn your trust than book an unnecessary job.
Cleaning is usually worthwhile when
- You can see mold or moisture in or around ducts and registers
- Heavy dust or debris blows from vents when the system starts
- Renovation or construction dust has entered the system
- There is evidence of pests, droppings or nesting material
- Water, fire or smoke has affected the ducts
- You are moving into a building with unknown history
Cleaning is usually not needed when
- The system is clean on inspection
- You want a "routine" yearly service with no specific cause
- Dust settles on furniture but the ducts are clean (check filters and room cleaning first)
- The real problem is a dirty filter or a poorly sealed system

What a Typical Duct Cleaning Service Visit Covers
Every system is different. This is the usual sequence of work, adjusted after the inspection.

Quotes are based on your actual system, not a flat package. Be wary of very low advertised prices: a thorough job takes time, and the cheapest offers often cover a quick pass through a few vents. You will see the scope and price in writing before work starts.
